President-Elect, Tinubu returns to Nigeria from Europe after one month

Nigeria’s President-Elect, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu has returned home after about one month away in Europe.

The aircraft which conveyed the former Lagos State governor arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja; at exactly 04:30pm on Monday, 24 April, 2023, reports said.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) national Leader, who officially left the country since March 22, returned about one month away to his inauguration on May 29, 2023.

He was accompanied by his wife, Senator Oluremi; and were received by the Vice-President-Elect, Kashim Shettima; Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; amongst many other high-ranking members of the Party.

The President-Elect was received by a highly excited crowd of supporters decked up in party paraphernalia.


Though Tinubu was declared winner of the February 25 Presidential poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),  his victory is being challenged at the tribunal by two top contestants — Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While away, his whereabouts had been trailed with controversies and speculations.

To dowse the rising tension, his spokesman, Tunde Rahman revealed his principal was in Paris, France to rest and observe the lesser hajj.

Tinubu’s health status has been a subject of controversy in the last two years. 

In 2021, the President - Elect was away in the United Kingdom for over three months where he had surgery and therapy for a knee injury; as he also travelled again to the UK and Paris a few times in 2022.
