Ahead of tomorrow (Saturday, 19 September, 2023) Caf Confederation Cup second round preliminary game between Bendel Insurance FC of Benin and RS Berkane of Morocco, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has called on the people to turn out en-mass and massively support the team for victory.

He noted that in the team's first leg match against AS Chlef of Algeria last month, the people did respond to the same call and the 12,000 capacity Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, was filled to the brim for the first time after a very long
while.

The Governor in a media briefing on Friday, made the call
saying; "as a State Government, we don't want to take that support for granted. We are grateful," he added.

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Andrew Okungbowa, the Governor sued for a repeat of the turn out and support on Saturday.

In about three decades past, the team had not been on the continent and now that the opportunity is again available, it is natural to galvanize massive support for the team, the Governor said.

"Edo State through Bendel Insurance FC is at the verge of making history in a couple of hours from now, hence we want everyone to be involved."

Continuing, he assured that the State Government has done everything humanly possible in terms of preparing the team, in terms of giving them all the encouragement and support they need off the field to get victory tomorrow.

"So, I can assure you that the team is not lacking anything; all that they need is to be in good spirit, morally, physically and even spiritually;  we have provided for them as a Government.

"The State Government outside of preparing the team, has also put everything in place in terms of mobilising the people to be part of Saturday's event."

Reiterating the call for massive support for the team, the Governor himself as the number one supporter of the team, will be leading the charge, he promised.

Towards this, all the civil servants and public servants have been mobilised to give their support to the team.

Also, the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku will lead both the Legislators and workers to the Stadium in support of the team as well, it was disclosed.

Assuring that the State Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory for the team, the Governor asserts that the State Government is solidly behind the team, and will continue to give all the support they require to succeed, play football and entertain.

This is as the Chairman, Edo Sports Commission, Yusuf Ali disclosed that all the 15,000 tickets printed for the game will be given out to supporters as they come, at no cost.

Hence, the 12 points where the 30 E.C.T.S buses picked up supporters the last time will on Saturday be maintained; free ride for everyone who turns out for the team, he assured.

Chairman, Edo Sports Commission, Yusuf Ali, and one other member, Acting MD, E.C.T.S, Mrs. Hauwa Dupe Ohikhuai, and C.P.S to the Governor, Andrew Okungbowa briefed the media on the level of Government mobilization of support for the team, also preparation of the team itself, for victory.
