5th Convocation: Edo State University to graduate 414 students

Edo State University, Uzairue will at its 5th Convocation ceremony holding on Saturday, 4 November, 2023, graduate a total of 414 students, and her first set of postgraduate students.

The Vice Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor made the revelation, during the press briefing to usher activities marking the convocation ceremony.

Prof. Aluyor gave the breakdown; 12 students would be awarded first class Honours degree; 154, second class Honours (Upper Division) degree; 234 to obtain second class Honours (Lower Division) degree, while 14 students will earn third class degree respectively.

Further he said; 9 out of 14 candidates have completed their PhD programs, 4 have successfully completed their M.Sc and M.A degrees; while 38 will be receiving postgraduate Diplomas.

The University, Prof. Aluyor asserts have experienced growth in both students enrollment, and the number of faculties and departments which includes Arts and communication, Management and Social Sciences, Applied Health Science, Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Science and Law with 32 departments.

Continuing, he said the University have also obtained approval from the Nigeria University Commission (NUC) to commence additional new programs: Nursing Science, Law and Civil Engineering in the postgraduate programmes.

While the NUC have also conducted resource verification visit for various new programs such as Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Broadcasting, Media Journalism, Miming Engineering, Production Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering; saying academic activities would soon commence in those departments.

Prof. Aluyor stated that the University has been working diligently to fulfill the purpose and vision of its founders; "Our goal is to be an exceptional institution for teaching and learning.

"Despite various obstacles, the University have continued to operate and successfully graduate students as at when due."


The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the students population of the University is currently projected to hit over 4,500, by the end of the on going admission process.

This, he asserts underline the University's consistent growth and its ability to attract more students.

The Convocation lecture titled: 'Harnessing The Potentials of Nigerian Youth for National Unity And Development', is to be delivered by Brig. Gen. Yushau Dogara Ahmed, Director General, National Youth Service Corps, the Vice Chancellor disclosed.

He added that as part of this year's Convocation, the University will confer the award of honorary doctorate degree (Honoris Causa) on two notable Nigerians, Dr. Mrs. Owen D. Omogiafo and Mr. Eric Idiahi, for their illustrious career and wonderful contributions to the development of Nigeria.

Prof. Aluyor reiterated the University's commitment to its long-standing practice of giving a prize of five million naira to the graduating student who has the most innovative and potentially lucrative business idea.

"We have kept this promise because of our belief that when our students graduate from this school, we want them to not only have the skills necessary to find employment, but to also become self-employed and be able to employ others."
