The Curtains will be drawn on the 2023 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament tomorrow, Wednesday, November 1 with Edo Queens doing battle against Bayelsa Queens in the final battle for the trophy, at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin.
The final match is scheduled to begin at 5pm.
Edo Queens FC on Monday, defeated Remo Stars Ladies 3-0 in the semi-final match at the Western Boys College field; to set up the final clash with Bayelsa Queens who managed to beat Delta Queens 5-4 in a penalty shootout, after a barren 90 minutes of action at the University of Benin Sports Complex.
Osigwe Goodness of Edo Queens scored twice in the first half to increase the confidence of her side against the Coach Wemimo Matthews managed Remo Ladies; who bundled out defending champions, FC Robo of Lagos in the quarter finals stage of the Nigeria Women Premier League pre-season tournament.
Osigwe opened the scoring for Edo Queens in 32 minute of play and got a brace eight minutes later, with a fine volley from the flank.
Captain and playmaker Abideen Suliyat converted a spot kick in the 53rd minute of play, to take the game beyond the reach of their former coach, Wemimo Matthews.
The center referee had spotted Ibrahim Hannah’s handball in the box.
On the road to the finals of the 2023 edition of the BOWFT, Edo Queens humbled Naija Ratels 3-0 in the opening game, played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and went on to beat Remo Stars Ladies 2-1 at the Western Boys mini stadium in the group stage.
The Obaseki girls also secured 2-1 victory over Heartland Queens of Owerri, in the quarter finals match to set up the second meeting of defeated Remo star Ladies.
