Oba of Benin wards off evil spirits, prays for Nigeria at Igue festival

HRM Oba Ewuare II offering prayers for Nigeria 

Benin Monarch, HRM Oba Ewuare II on Tuesday performed the 2023 Ugie Emobo rites; praying to Almighty God and his ancestors on behalf of Nigeria.

He performed the spiritual rites to ward-off every evil from the country, and particularly Benin Kingdom through prayers ahead of the new year.

This was made known in a press release signed by Osaigbovo Iguobaro,
Chief Press Secretary to the Monarch, and availed journalists in Benin on Tuesday, 26 December, 2023.

Performing the spiritual rites of chasing away evil forces from the land, the Monarch indulged in the exchange of communication with the ancestral spirits; backed with soul stirring ancestral traditional songs.


Designated routes including Plymouth, Airport roads, the King square, and environs were electrified, as Oba Ewuare II beats the Royal drum.

With Letema armed with the collective ancestral staff of Benin, sings and dance round the King Square in the Capital City of Edo, along with the Monarch. 

While at the Edion Edo deity, the royal father offered prayers of peace and blessings with the ceremonial sword and collective ancestral staff of Benin.

This is as spectators trooped out to partake in the blessings of Ugie Emobo rites; an event which has gained wide scale acceptance among the people in Benin.

Notably, the Ogbelaka Royal drummers led by Chief Okpamen Eghobamien, the Obamwonyi N' Ogbelaka of Benin dished out the spiritual rhythm alongside the songs, that powered the event.
