Emperor Jarrett Tenebe addressing the media on Wednesday, 31 January, 2024 in his office at the APC State Secretariat in Benin.

Edo State APC acting Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe officialy assumed office on Tuesday, 31January, 2024 in Benin. He declared that it was once again time for politics!

Canvassing the people's mandate, he asserts that the Party is fully prepared to take on opponents with a warning message particularly to the Governor Godwin Obaseki's led PDP; that it was no business as usual!

He solicits the cooperation of the media in the APC's quest to
achieving its set objectives which top most; Tenebe declared that it is retaking the seat of power in Osadebay Avenue; in the September Governorship election.

"... We want your cooperation as I start this journey, and I know our Party that I am soliciting for you guys to support, will get to Osadebay Avenue.

"I beg all of you, join us to work with us to rescue our dear State!"

Tenebe recalling the events which characterized the general election of 2023 in Edo State with particular reference to the State House of Assembly and local Government Council elections thereafter; he warns; "but this afternoon I want to send a clear message to Governor Obaseki, it is not going to be business as usual!

"Now, I emperor Jarret Tenebe having reported to duty is now the Chairman of the APC in Edo.

"I am sending a clear message to him (Obaseki) that me as a person and the Party, we don't want problems but if you bring problems for us; there is no problem!

Tenebe noting; that Edo State under the Governor Obaseki led PDP administration has experienced more decay, assured that the APC would come up with a candidate who will win the election and change the negative narrative to what the people of the State desires.

Reiterating that it would not be business as usual in the coming Governorship election he declared; "we know how to do it, and we will do everything possible to ensure that the election will be free and fair and we will come out victorious!"

Further the acting Chairman asserts the APC is a Party that believes in the rule of law; hence its primary will be free and fair as a level playing field will be availed all aspirants.

He explained, that the criteria the Prof. Julius Ihonvbere's committee used in its screening of the aspirants was; "winning the last election at the Unit, Ward and local Government Council level."

As the rationale; is the ability of whoever will be the candidate to mobilize massive votes for the Party at the grassroots.

"...for a consensus to be built around a particular person, he must have won all his elections.

"... What we want is not where you come from, but someone who can win the election for us.

"We are very desperate because the State is in a decay because Godwin Obaseki and his resemblance, have to be booted out of Osadebay Avenue."

Also, he disclosed that the Party is looking at who will be loyal to it, having learned bitter lessons with the Obaseki's Governorship.

"...We will not entertain indiscipline in the Party. We will not want an indisciplined Governor who will not listen to the Party; because it is as a result of that we found ourselves where we are.

"We had a Governor in Obaseki, at the end of the day he messed up the Party and defected to the PDP with the mandate we gave to him from the APC."

Exornorating Senator Adams Oshiomhole from the allegation of having teleguided the works of the Ihonvbere's committee, Tenebe stated; "there was no witch hunting anyone, we will only build consensus around someone who is electable and you cannot be electable if you cannot win election in your Unit, Ward, local Government Council Area and Constituency."

Tenebe however stressed, that the Ihonvbere's committee was only persuasive so any aspirant who feels he is qualified and widely accepted, is very free to purchase the form to participate in the February 17 primary of the Party.

"The primary will be open to everyone who bought form and that is the beauty of direct primary which the Party has resolved to adopt."

But he warned; that it was not going to be business as usual, as things will at this time be done differently from the past.

The substantive State  Chairman of the Party Col. David Imuse retd. recently resigned to join the race for the APC Governorship ticket and the election in September, and Tenebe according to the APC constitution stepped in has the acting Chairman having been the deputy State Chairman.
