No less than 15 foreigners allegedly are pushing for the vacant coaching job of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

This is coming after Finidi George voluntarily resigned his position as the Chief coach of the team recently.

The Management authority; Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a bid to salvage the unfortunate situation the team has found itself; threat of not qualifying for the 2026 world cup, have decided to hire a foreign technical adviser to take charge of affairs.

Finidi who reportedly had a heart to heart meeting with the NFF and Sports Minister previously for the way forward; felt disrespected and humiliated by his proposed demotion to work under the foreign technical adviser if employed.

When he learned of the proposal, he voluntarily put in his resignation letter which was approved by the football authority.

This opened the door for interested coaches to apply with no less than 15 applications already coming from across the shores of Nigeria, it was alleged.

"We have 15 coaches pushing for the job at the moment. Most of them are willing to take what Finidi was earning previously, so money is not an issue here. I think the former coach of Cameroon Toni Conceicao is still the favourite but no talks yet with his camp" a source at the NFF reportedly told OwnGoalNigeria.com.

"I saw a report about talks with a Belgian coach. That is true, but for now if we are to go by the initial report of the technical committee then it is Conceicao. It is the safest and wisest thing to do but this is Nigeria and you know how things can be at the top", the source allegedly said.

The Super Eagles chances of qualifying for the 2026 world cup are on the cliff hanger, after a dismal performance under the watch of Finidi in the last two qualifiers; the team played 1-1 against South Africa in Uyo and was defeated 1-2 by Gernt Rohr tutored Benin Republic in Ivory Coast.

The Super Eagles are sitting at number five on the group C table with three points of supposed 12 points from four games and Zimbabwe at number six; the last.

Rwanda sits atop the group table with seven points at par with the Bafana-Bafana of South Africa in second position, with the goal difference of minus one.

While the Republic of Benin occupies the third place also with seven points and inferior goal difference.

As Lesotho occupies the fourth position with five points from four games to be in contention.
