The governor Monday Okpebholo led Edo State Government has set for the new management of Bendel Insurance FC, and Edo Queens the target to go beyond the premier League in the quest for success.

The deputy governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa on behalf of the State Government set the target while delivering his address, during the unveiling of the new management of the teams on Tuesday, 14 January, 2025 at the Government House, Benin.

To actualise this set target, the entire management team must seamlessly work in one accord, the State Government charged.

"The new Head Coach, Technical Director, and Team Manager, must work together seamlessly to improve on the performance of Bendel Insurance Football Club, and advance the club beyond the premier league tournament."

In the same vein, the new players were told to shun indiscipline, football hooliganism; and embrace team work at all times, to place them ahead of other football clubs.

This is as the Government acknowledged the performance of the female team; which it described as superlative as champions of the Nigeria Women Football Premier League, pointing out that it has restored the confidence in Edo as the home of sports.

"The State Government is proud and elated over the performance of Edo Queens in the Nigeria Women football premier league, and continental engagements."

Unveiling of the new management of both teams and players, underscores the importance the Okpebholo's administration places on sports as a veritable vehicle of promoting unity and cohesion; amongst the people of the State, the Government asserts.

Adding; that their appointment was a testament of Government commitment to revitalize and reposition the both teams for efficient service delivery.

"Since the inauguration of the present administration, we have continued to prioritize the welfare of sports men and women, and give them the necessary encouragement to spur them to attain greater heights in competitions.

"This has crystalized in sustaining the achievements Edo State has recorded in sporting activities, a trajectory that must be sustained."

Consequently, the Government restated its renewed commitment to supporting the "vision of the State Sports Commission; in grooming talents, especially youths, in channelling their energies in sports development, as envisioned by the founding fathers of the defunct Bendel State."

On behalf of the appointees, the executive Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Amadin Enabulele thanked the Government for finding them worthy and promised not to disappoint.

Greg Ikhenoba is the new Chief coach of the Benin Arsenal, Austin Iyamu, gets the technical director position of the team and Peter Obanor is the team manager while for the female team; Rollanson Odey takes charge as the general manager.

For Edo Queens, the State Government has recruited 13 new players to beef up the vitality of the team, while the Insurance FC is exploring the transfer market to put bite into the team going into the second stanza of the premier League, it was said.
