Governor Monday Okpebholo made the revelation recently in a statement issued by his Chief press secretary, Fred Itua and availed the media in Benin, the State Capital.

This however is contrary to the much advertised achievements of the Obaseki led administration as having made Edo the most advanced ICT State in Nigeria; and for which he was widely acclaimed and received awards from various quarters.

Governor Okpebholo laments that his administration met a subpar (sub-standard) ICTA in all ramifications and has hampered the smooth flow of State activities.

Hence since the assumption of office, on his directive the State ICTA has been revamping and restructuring the Edo State Government's website and its network.

The Okpebholo's administration accused its predecessor of having engaged consultants it termed; inexperienced and paperweight to whom the sum of over N200m was paid.

"These consultants were awarded a contract of over ₦200 million for the development of a website which was developed using Wordpress and its associated plug-ins; hardly a reflection of value for money or the technological advancement one would expect from such an investment

"The use of numerous plug-ins in its creation, culminated in a website that was unstable, lacked adequate cybersecurity and unfit for use by any organisation."

The Okpebholo's administration wondered how such a basic website could have been developed for the State; getting it curious.

The consequences of this poorly executed project have compelled the new administration to be working to revamp over 160 websites belonging to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), it was said.

As it was also revealed that the State website was entirely left in the care and control of an unaccountable consultant who monopolised access, by the Obaseki led administration.

"The Edo State government is now ensuring that its digital infrastructure is fully under the control of its ICT Agency, with clear policies preventing third-party entities from monopolising access.

"Government agencies will learn that digital security is just as crucial as physical security hence leaving critical data in the hands of unaccountable consultants, is equivalent to handing over state secrets to an unknown entity.

"The Okpebholo administration is committed to salvaging this situation and creating a stable platform that is edifying the great people of Edo State.

"Beyond just fixing the immediate problem, this debacle is a wake-up call for how public ICT projects are handled," it was said.

Further adding; that the decision to inform the public was a necessary step in fostering transparency.

The Okpebholo's administration consequently emphasised the importance of a well developed website for a corporate entity.

"In today's digital age and world, a website is a crucial component of an organisation's online presence, serving as a virtual storefront and information hub.

"As a well-designed website enables organizations to effectively communicate their mission, values, and services to a global audience, fostering brand awareness and credibility.

"Moreover, websites provide a platform for organizations to engage with citizens, customers, stakeholders, and partners, facilitating feedback, collaboration, and growth.

"By establishing a strong online presence, organizations can stay competitive, expand their reach, and achieve their goals. Hence, in the world of today, having a website is of utmost importance."
