Fresh students admitted into the Edo State University, Uzairue have been urged to seize the opportunity which awaits them and make the best use of the resources provided.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Engr. Prof Emmanuel Aluyor gave the advice during the orientation program held for the 2023/2024 set of fresh students.
Congratulating the students; the Vice Chancellor said that their presence signifies the continuation of legacy of academic brilliance and pursuit of knowledge that is the hallmark of the University.
The knowledge they would acquire during their time at the University will empower them to be agents of positive change to contribute meaningfully to their communities, and the nation at large, Prof. Aluyor said.
"As you step into the vibrant academic community, I implore you to leverage on the modern technical facilities at your disposal."
Further, he explained that the orientation was aimed to provide insight into the University's system, offering guidance and valuable information from the seasoned speakers on various topics related to its administration.
The University has created the Student Representative Council (SRC) which serves as a vital link between the student body and the University's management, the Vice Chancellor stated.
Adding; that the collaborative effort is aimed to foster a harmonious relationship where students are not merely recipients of education; but active contributors to the University's growth and development.
As he assured them that the University boasts a team of exceptional lecturers and academic staff committed to ensuring their academic success.
Prof. Aluyor however admonished that it was essential on the part of the students to conduct themselves responsibly; by avoiding actions that could hinder their studies or compromise their stay within the University.
Earlier in her address, the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Mrs. Muniratu Maliki welcomed the students to the State owned University; noting that their journey towards academic excellence and personal growth have just begun.
It was a joyous occasion to have them join the vibrant and diverse community, She said.
Orientation is meant at providing students with information that will make them achieve success in their academic career and personal goals, the Students Affairs Dean lectures.
The University's aim; is to meet the dreams for quality tertiary education, seeking to reduce dependence on foreign institutions and promote other socio economic growth while its vision is to be a centre for excellence in teaching, research, innovation and community development, She added.
As She asserts the University provides access to world class education in a serene environment with model state of the art facilities; well equipped laboratories and libraries stocked with up to date physical and online researches.
Continuing, the Dean told the students that success in the University requires hard work and dedication, as it can get stressful and overwhelmed; hence devising a good strategy for academic success is important.
They must therefore always attend classes and do all assignments as well form reading and study groups, while setting achievable goals and remain focused on the path to achieving them, She admonished.
She also stressed the need for the students to shun indecent dressing, high brow social life, and social vices, while embracing guidance and counseling services, health care on campus; amongst others.
Other speakers at the orientation include the Commandant, Nigeria Army School of Electric and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME), Major General Oladele Arogundade whose topic was the 'Purpose Driven Student'.
